If your goal is to improve your English level in 2026, you need to stop trying methods that have failed you before. In this video, I will give you 7 tips that you should be following if you want your level to improve, and fast.
It’s not as simple as going to lessons or watching TikToks – you need to do more to immerse yourself in the language. Have you noticed that babies don’t need lists of vocabulary and 100 grammar exercises to learn their native language? Even as adults we can take advantage of our human ability to learn language from exposure.
Learning English can feel impossible, especially if you don’t have the time or money to invest towards that goal. But with a few simple guidelines, you will feel better prepared to start speaking English and learning English like native speakers do.
Here are the tips I talked about in my video:

Immerse yourself in English every day.
The way the human mind learns languages naturally is being surrounded by that language. No child has needed to pick up a list of vocabulary and grammar exercises to learn how to speak their native tongue. Even adults have the ability to do this, and to learn to speak like native English speakers, you have to be audience to the way they use their language naturally.
It’s important to stop looking at content (movies, books, tv shows, social media) in Spanish or your native language. These are actually tools for you to be immerse yourself in English from the comfort of your own home.

Learn from real life examples, not school textbooks
Textbooks are designed for excelling at exams (not even that sometimes!). You need to see real examples in realistic contexts. Just learning lists of vocabulary won’t actually help you be able to use them. The best way to learn new vocabulary and grammar is by learning it in real, natural contexts.

Talk to yourself
Do speaking exercises alone to teach your brain to form sentences faster. There are several ways to do this:
Put on a timer for 1 minute, choose a random topic and speak without stopping about it for the entire minute. Overtime, you can increase this to 2 mins, and then 5 mins.
Imagine a scenario where you need to have a conversation with a friend, a waiter, a colleague, and script the whole conversation.
The goal is not to speak perfectly and make no mistakes. The goal is to teach and train your brain to quickly think in English and form sentences in English without so much hesitation and fear. This will help you be able to learn to speak and understand others quicker. You have to break the initial barrier to start accessing real fluidity.

Only do classes if they are dynamic, speaking focused
Classes are an investment of time and money. Any class where you and the other students are not constantly speaking and instead staring at a book or sheets of paper is a waste of both time and money.

Use internet tools, but carefully
The internet can be an amazing place with so much access to information, or it can be a place where you get trapped in misinformation, adverts and scams. Be careful about where you get your English learning information from. Ask yourself: Is this person native? Would I agree with something similar if someone wanted to learn Spanish? Are they just selling me something?
I see videos on Instagram and TikTok all the time claiming to teach you “advanced English” but they are in reality just trying to get views and spreading over-complicated or unrealistic advice. You don’t need to fall for this trap.

Make mistakes and learn from them
Making mistakes is scary, and I understand that because I learned Spanish while living in Spain. But you have to take the leap and make mistakes so that you don’t let that be a barrier between you and real-world practice, and so that you can learn from your mistakes and improve.

Stop translating word-for-word
If we could translate word for word in every language the world may be a lot simpler; but what’s the fun in that? Languages are a naturally formed part of culture – so just like music and art, they are widely different and that’s what makes them beautiful. Don’t expect everything to translate word-for-word, instead appreciate the beauty in the differences
